Show & Tell: YOU in 5 words or less

Everyone keeps asking me, “What’s the secret to a great photo?” I tell them it’s lots of things. The location, the wardrobe, the lighting and angles of course.  You need to feel comfortable and happy with yourself and the person taking the photo. But beyond all that, actually, the answer is even simpler. The secret to a great photo is individual. You have to ask yourself, “What do I want to say with this picture?”

Do you remember that thing when we were kids, show and tell? That’s the main premise behind an online profile of any kind whether it is for LinkedIn or The text is supposed to tell who you are and what you want and the picture is supposed to show it.

So here is what I recommend before you get photos taken: make a list of your top words. If a friend, a colleague or family member were to describe you in 5 words or less, what would they be? Spend some time with those words. If you are warm, detailed and energetic, embrace it. Take these ideas to your shoot. Tell your photographer about your focus. And think about the intention you have created. These traits will show up in your eyes, in your smile, in your laugh as the shoot goes on. If you are an aggressive person, you don’t want a passive photo. Show the digital world what you are telling with the best picture possible. I know you will appreciate the results.
